THEURGE

The theurge is a caster who doesn’t believe in limits - not between the arcane and the divine, not between spell and sphere, and certainly not for themselves. With a little knowledge about everything, they believe they can do anything - and they’re usually right.

Requirements

To qualify to become a theurge, a character must fulfill all the following criteria:

Skills: Knowledge (arcane) 6 ranks, Knowledge (divine) 6 ranks, Spellcraft 6 ranks

Spells: Two of the following: can cast 2nd-level arcane spells, can cast 2nd-level divine spells, spherecaster level 4 and knows at least 4 magic talents

Hit Die: d6

Class Skills: The theurge’s class skills are Knowledge (arcane) (Int), Knowledge (divine) (Int), Sense Motive (Wis), and Spellcraft (Int).

Skill Ranks per Level: 4 + Int modifier

CLASS FEATURES

The following are the class features of the theurge:

Magic:

When a new theurge level is gained, the character chooses two of his previous classes and gains either new spells per day (arcane or divine) as if he had also gained a level in that class or new magic talents and spell points as if he was a High-caster. He does not, however, gain other benefits a character of that class would have gained.

Combined Spells (Su):

A mystic theurge can prepare and cast spells from one of his spellcasting classes using the available slots from any of his other spellcasting classes. Spells prepared or cast in this way take up a slot one level higher than they originally occupied. This ability cannot be used to cast a spell at a lower level if that spell exists on both spell lists. At 1st level, a mystic theurge can prepare 1st-level spells from one of his spellcasting classes using the 2nd-level slots of the other spellcasting class. Every level thereafter, the level of spells that can be cast in this way increases by one, to a maximum of 5th-level spells (these spells would take up 6th-level spell slots). The components of these spells do not change, but they otherwise follow the rules for the spellcasting class used to cast the spell.

Spell Synthesis (Su):

At 5th level, a theurge may combine a spell from one of his chosen classes with another spell or sphere ability from his other chosen class. The combined effect uses the longest casting time of the two, and the theurge can make any decisions concerning the spells/talents independently of each other. Any target affected by both of the effects takes a –2 penalty on saves made against them. The theurge also receives a +2 bonus on caster level checks made to overcome spell resistance with these two effects. A theurge may use this ability once per day.

If one of the theurge’s chosen classes is a spherecaster, he gains the following features instead of combined spells:

Spherespell (Su):

A theurge can use his spell points to replace spells he has previously cast. At 1st level, the theurge can spend a spell point as a free action to recall a spell he had previously cast that day, returning it to memory so that it may be recast. If he has levels in a class that casts spells spontaneously, he may spend a spell point to cast a spell without using one of his spells per day. He may do this with 1st level spells when he gains his first theurge level. At every theurge level gained beyond the first, he may use this ability with spells 1 level higher, up to 5th level spells.

Dissolve Spell (Su):

A theurge may sacrifice a spell as a swift action, turning it into energy to empower a sphere ability. The theurge gains an enhancement bonus equal to the spell’s level to his caster level with the next sphere effect he uses by the end of his turn. He may do this with 1st level spells when he gains his first theurge level. At every theurge level gained beyond the first, he may use this ability with spells 1 level higher, up to 5th level spells.
